It was really hot outside today so I didn't get much reading done at the pool today. Then Mom and I went to see "Transformers 3" and it was absolutely amazing. All together, I only read about a hundred pages today, but I thinkI've finally gotten to the beginning of the meat of it.
We've finally met Lisbeth Salander (the girl with the dragon tattoo) and we've begun to learn about the mystery that will eventually lead her to Mikael Blomkvist. And a rather juicy mystery it is at that. The pair are hired by Henrik Vanger, an elderly, once-powerful industrialist, to find his niece who disappeared more than forty years previous. Vanger presumes his niece (Harriet) to be dead - with rather convincing arguments. I am certainly anxious to discover what is going on beneath the surface of this plot.
Vanger's most compelling evidence is the arrival on his birthday every year of a framed, pressed flower - a tradition started by his now missing niece. But, my ever critical mind wants to know - why does this make him think she is dead rather than alive but otherwise unable to contact him? I would assume that it was a message saying "Hey, I can't contact you directly but I want you to know that I'm doing okay." Of course, I understand why he thinks it is someone attempting to torture him - but still I wonder. Is there something we don't know yet. Oh the mystery. Something to look forward to.
